The Composer Directory is being built for composers and orchestrators who write original music for school and community stages — a pit score for the spring musical, a marching arrangement, an incidental cue under a scene. It opens as composers join, so today it is an address, not a roster: nothing is listed yet, and this page says so plainly rather than dressing an empty directory up as a live one.
There is no live, searchable directory of composers here yet — no profiles, no counts, no waitlist tally. If you write original music and want to be among the first to claim a profile, request early access and we will reach out as the directory opens.
What The Composer Directory is for
This directory is for the person who wrote the music — the composer of an original work, or the orchestrator who arranged it for the players in the room. That is a different craft from the songwriter who writes a song and its lyric (that discipline has its own home at The Songwriter Directory) and from the performer who plays or conducts it. The Composer Directory is organized around one question a music director actually asks: who wrote this, for what forces, and can I see the score?

The shape a listing will take
A claimed profile will show the composer’s own credits: the title of a work, what it was written for (a pit orchestra, a concert band, a chamber group, voice and piano), the instrumentation or forces it calls for, and whether the score can be looked at. No name, rating, review, or commission count is shown here — this is the shape of an entry, not a real composer.
How it will work when the directory opens
None of this is live yet. When the directory opens, the path for a composer will be direct:
- A composer claims a profile in their own name — by choice, never scraped from a program or a credits list.
- They list the works they wrote, each with the fields a music director needs: the forces and instrumentation it calls for, its duration, and whether the score can be looked at before it is programmed.
- A music director searching for original music can find a composer by what they write and the forces they write for — and reach that composer directly.
- Minor composers stay consent-gated and are not listed by default; a student’s work appears only with the consent posture described below.
Where this stands today: empty, and honest about it
The Composer Directory is empty at launch. There are no composer profiles, no member count, no roster, no waitlist tally, and no testimonials — because none exist yet, and inventing them would be a lie. The directory opens as composers join.
What is real today is this address and the early-access invitation on it. What is planned is the searchable directory itself and the profile engine behind it — the composer discipline of the same engine that runs the built performer directories. Until a composer has actually claimed a profile, there is nothing to search, and this page will keep saying so. There is nothing to log into and nothing for sale here; no card is charged today.
Privacy and consent
A composer lists themselves here by choice. This directory is not built by scraping concert programs, liner notes, or credits lists into an involuntary roster — a profile exists only when the person it names creates it. Nothing is listed until someone claims it.
Minor composers are consent-gated and are not listed by default. A student who writes music can be represented only with the appropriate consent in place, and their work is not surfaced without it. This is an adult-creator, performing-arts directory, not a school records system — it carries no student roster and makes no school-directory or student-records claim.

If you write original music for the stage or the concert hall and want to be among the first composers listed, ask to be included as the directory opens. There is no account to create and no form that signs you up for anything — just an early-access request we answer as profiles go live.

Who can list a profile?
A composer or orchestrator who writes original music, listing themselves by choice. No one is added by scraping; a profile exists only when its owner claims it.
